In July 2013, I co-founded Sage Legal Advisors, LLP with Tammera Wells, who has been a friend and colleague of mine since 1986 when we met as summer interns during law school. Inspired by the entrepreneurs at the Slow Money National Gathering in Boulder, Colorado in April 2013, we decided to create a new law firm to provide affordable legal services to small and medium-sized businesses and non-profit organizations, with a primary focus on environmentally and socially sustainable enterprises.
Tammera and I previously worked together for almost 10 years with a family-owned business that operated commercial bakeries with a food importing subsidiary. Over that decade, we managed the company’s legal issues through all growth phases, as the company expanded from one small production facility in San Diego to five facilities nationwide; annual revenues increased from $3 million to nearly $100 million; and the number of employees grew from 8 to over 850.
With our combined legal expertise, we are able to assist businesses in many sectors to navigate most of the legal hurdles they encounter from the early formation decisions into operations, and through strategic business expansions. Together, we bring experience in general business law, entity formation, debt and equity capital transactions, contracts, commercial real estate acquisition and leasing, employment law, mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
